5 RAPPERS TO WATCH OUT FOR IN 2014

A$AP Nast

New York hasn’t exactly had an easy seat on the throne over the last few years, and last year’s bickering over the dominance of the South, the Midwest and, er, Kendrick Lamar hasn’t exactly helped matters. Saying that, A$AP Mob’s A$AP Nast made surprising moves to reclaim the city’s golden-era sound with the surprisingly excellent ‘Trillmatic’.

Let’s ignore the fact that the beat could have been snatched from Mecca and the Soul Brother for a second and concentrate on Nast’s deft lyricism – it’s retro, yeah, but manages to sidestep the aggravating backpackery of Joey Bada$$’s Pro Era crew as Nast twists his words with an ease and confidence that halts his better-known compatriots in their tracks. Seems there’s gas in the Empire State yet.

Eminem ‘enjoying spa treatments’

Eminem is reportedly enjoying treatments at a hotel spa before a major concert.

The rapper is more known for spitting controversial lyrics than providing soothing background music.

But with two big gigs coming up at Wembley Stadium in the UK, the 41-year-old has reportedly decided to take some downtime at Coworth Park Hotel.

“Eminem is having all sorts of treatments; he’s really getting into it. He now sees it as perfect preparation for big shows as he completely relaxes,” a source told British newspaper The Sun.

“He’s a perfectionist and wants to be in the best shape physically and mentally for the gig.”

The musician will play his first show tomorrow, Friday July 11, with a second date the day after added due to high demand.

Eminem hasn’t played in London since 2001, when he belted out raps such as Just Don’t Give A F**k and Sh*t On You to fans.

Now the father-of-one seems to have calmed down his bad-boy ways, even if his lyrics do still contain plenty of expletives.

In fact, he wasn’t allowed to perform in London’s Hyde Park recently due to the nature of his tracks.

“This artist flagged risks across the board. In particular in respect of our public reputation,” Royal Parks CEO Linda Lennon said in an email obtained by The Mirror.

“The nature of any act with potential for lyrics to be deemed offensive and/or unsuitable language being audible within the park as a whole, let alone the surrounding residential areas, is unacceptable.”

EMINEM AT WEMBLEY: SPECIAL GUESTS, SUPPORT & MORE

8465063_eminemguests666

Eminem performs two huge shows at Wembley Stadium this weekend. It isn’t likely to be a quiet one. One of the biggest rappers in the world, he last performed in the UK in 2013 at Reading & Leeds Festivals, leaving almost a year between UK shows.

The rapper released his critically acclaimed album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 in late 2013, so will have plenty of new material to perform, but of course, there is his huge back catalogue of hits to pull from – expect emotional anthems, hard-hitting hip hop classics and yes, a few special guests.

Here is what you can expect to see this weekend when Eminem performs at Wembley Stadium. Some of it fact, some of it hopes and dreams…

Odd Future: Eminem is not slacking when it comes to his support bands, bringing one of the most talked-about, controversial and explosive hip hop collectives with him to London. Odd Future, and namely Tyler The Creator are sure to cause absolute mayhem.

Danny Brown: The unpredictable, outrageous rapper will be bringing his own, gap-tooted brand of hip hop to Wembley, as the show’s second support act.

There will be BIG production: Let’s be honest Eminem isn’t short of cash and the boy knows how to stage a live show. His latest shows have included all kinds of ear and eye popping fun, including massive LED screens, pyrotechnics, a huge band and fingers crossed a costume change or two. Expect him to pull out every stop for his London show.

Busta Rhymes Broke a Windshield with His Head When He First Heard Eminem

Busta Rhymes gave his MC name a new meaning upon first hearing Eminem.

While on the road for the Smokin’ Grooves Tour back in the late ’90s, the rapper had an unusually strong reaction to listening to the Slim Shady EP: he banged his head so hard it broke a tour bus windshield.

“We were on the Smokin’ Grooves tour in the back of one of the venues,” Busta told Rolling Stone. “Wyclef has this big-ass studio on his bus so we always wanted to go hang out and he was playing the Slim Shady EP. Before I could actually get on the bus, I was standing on the three little steps that you walk up to get on to the bus and I was nodding my head so f—ing hard, going crazy, that I hit my head on the windshield and broke the whole f—in’ windshield of Wyclef’s bus. It f—ed the whole glass up.

“The f—ing shit that I was hearing from him created an animal instinct reaction,” he added. “There was no thought that went into the way I reacted; it was just so powerfully compelling that I just bugged out. And there are very few moments like that, for me, that made me feel like that. When I first heard him, I didn’t know if he was white or black or where he came from. All I knew is what he was making me feel like made me almost push my head through a windshield.”
